The taste isn't always pleasant, so you'll want to rinse your mouth out with salt water or other mouth wash after you are done.

Lime and Salt- Using a lime and salt has proven successful as a homemade teeth whitener. You'll want to squeeze a lime into a small cup and mix 50% lime juice with 50% salt. After mixing this solution into a paste consistency brush your teeth for a few minutes. It's important to rinse thoroughly to remove the acid from the lime.

Apple Cider Vinegar- You can use apple cider vinegar like a mouth wash to whiten your teeth. No toothbrush is required here, just swish the vinegar around for a few minutes, followed by a much needed rinse of water to alleviate that vinegar taste. Much like the lime, as mentioned above, the acid that's in the vinegar will eat away at the stains on your teeth. You wont get immediate results, but over time this method has proven successful.
