So your kids have crooked teeth. It happens. More often than not, kids
need braces. You're wondering how you're going to tackle one more bill,
and anyway, how much do braces cost? Well, you can relax because braces
aren't as expensive as they once were. Dental procedures in general
seem to be costing less these days, which is certainly more than overdue.
These days, it's all about perfection. You can't open a magazine
without seeing pearly whites, all in a row, on every man, woman and
child you see a picture of. Remember the days of being told by our
parents, "oh honey, it gives you personality", referring to your
overbite or crooked molars? Well, today's society demands more.
Thankfully, our kids won't be plagued by the unsightly head gear and
shiny silver train tracks that we were as kids.
Braces are so much better now than they used to be. Now you can get
braces that attach to the back of your teeth, and even braces that are
clear. Can you imagine? Clear. No more awkward teenage boys and girls
standing in the corner at the school dances. Today's braces won't motivate
anyone to be a wall flower.

What are the Costs?
Thankfully, costs have come down as materials have improved. One
wonderful thing about paying for braces is that most dentists offer not
only easy payment terms, but are now offering credit plans to patients.
Set up through a lending institution, the dental credit plan is much
like any other credit card or revolving credit plan. The only
difference is that instead of being able to buy fancy dinners or silk
suits, you are purchasing yours or your children's smiles on credit.
The complete price for braces will run you anywhere from $5,000-$7,500.
Behind the teeth braces typically run another $1,000-$2,500. These are called lingual braces and cost more due to customization requirements. On the economical side of things you can go with invisible braces called Invisalign. Invisalign braces cost only about $3,500-$5,000 depending on how much alignment is required. These seem to be the
favorite and new standard for braces. Making teens happier and less
apparent, these invisible braces are more comfortable than the old
style metal braces, as well. Your insurance may cover a portion of the
braces, but you'll need to check with your insurance provider to see
what your portion of responsibility is yours.
Invisible and Invisalign braces cost less than regular braces. These braces are usually a clear tray that goes on top of your teeth and can be worn throughout the day. Since they are removable, they are less costly. However, they are quite expensive to replace, which could severely raise your costs. Just be careful with them and don't forget to ask your orthodontist about payment plans!
The price of your typical braces includes brackets that are attached to each tooth
with glue or a metal band. From these brackets, arches are run to put
pressure on the teeth to move them into the proper place. Elastic
pieces are also used to hold the brackets on to the wires. When your
child first gets braces, they will be fitted with a retainer. The retainer is commonly included in the cost of braces. This
retainer will begin to shift your child's teeth in the right direction
and make room inside the mouth so that they can comfortably hold the
braces.
What's Involved?
Visits to the orthodontist are included in the stated price for braces.
Usually your dental insurance will cover the costs of all office
visits.This assumes that you have adequate insurance, as many dental insurance plans provide limited or no coverage for braces. Regardless, you wont have to worry about paying for a bunch of office visits, as it's part of your overall braces cost. And depending on your unique situation you may be seeing your orthodontist quite frequently. Invisalign, for example can require between 18 to 30 or more different aligners to get your teeth straight.
You can also find coupons and discounts for many orthodontists online. Wanting to keep business, they are frequently doing what they can to minimize your costs. As a word of caution, always do some homework when selecting any medical services. When it comes to medical procedures, the old saying of 'you get what you pay for' could not be more true. This doesn't mean you can't get a good deal, just to proceed with caution. So, remember that asking yourself how much do braces cost is an important question, so are the results. Getting referrals from satisfied patients can provide the peace of mind necessary to proceed with the procedure in confidence.

Yes, no matter which way you look at it braces are certainly not cheap. I too didn't have that kind of money, but I made significant sacrifices to better myself. Like anything in life worth having, sometimes you have to do what it takes to make it happen.
I have to say that yes, I often see people get sticker shock over the cost of braces.
What I usually suggest to people is to look at the "big picture" however.
Consider this:
1) Correcting teeth alignment now can be much more cost effective than correcting it later on - and prevent large amounts of pain depending on how your teeth are growing in.
2) Straight teeth do help out in your personal and professional life. I hate to sound superficial, however if those things are important to you, then there is value to be had
3) getting braces is a "natural" correction - unlike plastic surgery or other "surgical" alterations, there's nothing "fake" about the end result.
4) a proper dental plan can help mitigate the cost of braces. Check first, and see if there are any conditions to qualify with your benefits profider.
How much are they in the UK? I might be getting braces because some of my teeth are wonky because my jaw is too small,(thats what my dad thinks). We havent been able to see a dentist yet though because ours has quit and nobody is taking his place. I would prefer Invisalign braces but they look so expensive.

invisalign on the con side doesn't qualify for everyone, they only work in minor cases, and when I say minor I mean MINOR itty bitty crap. Damon braces seem the best way to go when you don't qualify for invisalign, I believe that's what I'll be getting.

dont be scared. the people that consider you a 'freak' at school are jealous of your smarts, or the confidence to let everyone see just how smart you are. many kids these days try to make themselves appear 'dumb' to be 'cool'. always remember confidence is key. the things that students make big deals about these days such as braces and glasses will be no big deal in the future. odds are those kids will also need braces and/or glasses.

I think i definatly need braces, i have an pretty big underbite so i know that the invinsalines won't work, and i think i would have to use the rubber bands one and i'm afraid about the discomfort and that i won't be able to eat food that i like to. i heard that you can't eat popcorn?????? is that true and can you not eat other food also

My 10 yr old was just referred to an orthodontist. Glad to see they cost less than 10k bc I was a bit worried. Still expensive, but manageable. I don't understand how parents wouldn't get their kids braces bc "it's too expensive." Any type of medical treatment is pricey. Don't have kids if you're not willing to pay. Btw I am a single mom with not a ton of disposible income, but that is no excuse. No new clothes, no going out, and taking my lunch to work everyday should offset the cost. so i am 15 years old, i will be turning 16 in a couple of months. i went to the orthodontist a few months ago to check if i need braces or not, and they told me everything i needed to know. My teeth arent perfect, but i dont absolutely need braces. They told me if i did get them that id only have them on for about a year. Braces are sooo expensive, and since id only get them on for a year, do you think i would be able to get it for less since i dont need as many appointments and check ups? I dont know if i should get them or not because not everyone has them now since im almost 16 but id rather get it now than later, i need some opinoins! My parents never got any of us children braces. now that I am a parent, I was not going to let that happen. I have dental coverage but no ortho coverage so i have to pay for my daughters braces out of pocket (she is 11) and it is a total of $4600. I pay monthly and it is totally manageable and very important to me. Cut down costs other places to be able to afford the 200 a month (orthos offer payment plans with no interest). Good Luck!

afford braces. After college & marriage I paid for my own braces @ 22. I'm happy to say that now @ 41 I still get comments about my " beautiful smile"....don't dis the parents-they have pressures too.....you can still do it yourself!
My teeth are super crooked, so my family was thinking about getting me some braces, but the prices for them kind of made them rethink the whole thing. However we are going to be taking a trip to India pretty soon and the braces there are only around 500 dollars!

I had braces and have had them off for about eight months now I was suppose to get them back on only a month after having them off cause I got a new orthodox but my mom and dad I guess decided not to ever take me make...so I guess this is something I have to do on my own now good thing I have a job and will be getting my own car soon..oh and I had my braces on for 5 years so...as long as you have a good orthodontist everything should be fine and fast...unlike mine Aw I got a new one and never went back cause my parents...soo good luck to me haha
My parents making us kids get braces was one of the greatest gifts they could have given us. Although, at the time, we were very resistant (because braces can make your mouth sore after adjustments are made), I now can't imagine life without a good smile. For those concerned about the embarrassment of having braces, two things: 1. Almost everyone gets them at one time or another, and 2. Would you rather be embarrassed for a couple years for wearing braces, or for the rest of your life for having crooked teeth. And, not to sound harsh, but having straight teeth definitely helps professionally. People are vain, and if you have a good smile on top of adequate credentials, you have a better chance of getting a job. By not investing in your child's smile, you're really putting them at a disadvantage later in life.

They said that i will have to wear braces for 1-2 years and then i hav to wear a retaner for 1-2 years at first i was really excited to finally get braces but now i am realky neverous about the idea.
