How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

Any good shopper will tell you that if you want a good deal, you have to look through a few windows. With this laser technology it's no different, prices differ. Does laser hair removal cost a lot? Not necessarily. In fact, depending on the part of your body that you'd like to have hair permanently removed from, the specialized technique can be quite reasonable. The trick is in talking to more than one specialist. You'll quickly see that every doctor offers a different price.

You are probably wondering to yourself how the fee for what amounts to basically the same exact procedure could be so dissimilar in price, depending on which two people you talk to. The truth of the matter is that there are a great number of reasons for the disparity.

How much hair you want to have removed affects the price, of course. More commonly, however, where you want to have it removed from makes a bigger difference. The experience of the doctor and the equipment they use also need to be taken into consideration.

The Numbers

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average charge for this kind of procedure is $429, but the range can differ as much as $100 from clinic to clinic, going from $400 to $500.

The first factor to consider is the area of your body that you want to have the procedure performed on. Every area of the body comes with its own price tag. If you're looking for work on a relatively small surface area, under the arms for example, a visit to the clinic might come in at between $250 and $350, not so bad really. Getting rid of unwanted facial hair or a having a little work done on the bikini area are both charged differently. Again, larger area demands a larger fee, with your arms or chest probably costing anywhere from an already high $350 to a whopping $600.

Remember that almost no one makes only a single visit to the laser hair removal clinic. The norm for most patients is at least 3 to 5 treatments, each with the same demand to the pocketbook. Try shopping around for a package deal. Many clinics offer three or four packages at a special discount. The case in the picture below would be on the high end, and would certainly be involve a number of treatments:

What to Look For

The equipment used at the clinic you choose is important to you and to your wallet as well. State-of-the-art technology comes at a higher price. It's a cost/benefit ratio that you might want to consider. Like anything else in life some equipment and professionals provide better results than others. Naturally, the good service from skilled professionals typically comes at a higher price. This is not to say that you can't get a good deal, but generally you're gonna pay more for quality.

Another question of cost benefit is maybe even more important. Remember that trained technicians usually come cheaper than specialized doctors, but it might not be as much of a bargain as it appears. A lot of people have quite sensitive skin and this type of laser surgery can be relatively aggressive on the epidermis, particularly for people with particularly dark or thick hair to be removed. Always talk to a dermatologist about your skin-type before making any type of skin-related procedure. In the laser hair removal cost/benefit ratio, your health should always be your first concern.
