Prepaid Legal Services Scam
80Are Prepaid Legal Services A Scam?
The attorney profession consists of thousands of licensed professionals that help people in their legal time of need. A lawyer is needed for so many things people encounter in their lives for a variety of reasons. In the event the need arises for attorney services, a person traditionally thumbs through the telephone book or shops online to see which law firm or attorney is best suited for them based on their advertisement.
The next big question is consultation fees and other related costs, which turns out to be the determining factor of which attorney's services are secured. Over the years we've seen and heard more and more about the benefits of prepaid legal services. Many people feel that prepaid legal services scam complaints are real. Whether this is valid or invalid, here is how legal services work and what tips on what to expect.
How Do Prepaid Legal Services Work?
As people who were in need of legal assistance became more aware of
these services and attempted to use them, in some cases, the need was
not fulfilled. This prompted complaints that prepaid legal services
scam artists take your money and don't provide the services promised.
To start, there are legitimate prepaid legal services. When you look
online you will see a variety of companies pop up. Some may be legit
and some may not be. It is highly recommended that you review all of
the information on the website to see what all of the benefits are of
joining such a service. Many services will have detailed information, a
question and answer section, and the best will have a telephone number
for you to call and talk to a live individual to ask additional
questions.
The way prepaid legal services work is they have an association of
attorneys in their network who have agreed to provide legal services to
members at a discount. If you think about an insurance plan or a
prescription drug plan, eye care or dental discount plan, prepaid legal
services works along those lines. You pay a monthly premium to get a
lower price on services when you need them. That does not mean you will
not have to pay a deductible or have an out of pocket expense. The
prepaid legal services company sales memberships, which become their
subscribing customers will use the services of the attorneys and
save money on legal fees.
This has been one of the elements very much misunderstood by people
joining legal service plans or networks. When you join a prepaid legal
service you will talk to a customer service or sales rep that signs you
up, provides information and sends you a starter informational kit.
This could be in some companies another problem. The customer service
person that is assisting you may not be thorough with providing the
necessary information needed to provide a clear picture on how the
program actually works. In turn, this could be misleading and is what
makes individuals claim prepaid legal services scams are real.
How to Avoid a Prepaid Legal Scam or Misunderstanding
Many people attempt to sign up for a prepaid legal service membership
when they have an urgent need for legal advice, have an upcoming court
case, or something to that affect. Time is of the essence for them.
They may be trusting because they are in a desperate need for advice
and an attorney to represent them. In this case, they may not take the
time to uncover or hear all of the facts. That is another reason why in
some cases it does not work out like they expected it would and are now
convinced prepaid legal services scams exist.
If you search around and do your homework on prepaid legal services,
there are benefits to joining a program with a legitimate company. What
many people don't know is that they have attorney's that can help you
through a variety of life situations. You don't have to wait until your
back is against the wall to seek these services.
There are actually tools to determine if you will need an attorney for
life situations. Here are some of the services they provide to assist
individuals and families that may need an attorney or legal advice at
some point in their life. The attorney's can provide assistance with
understanding tax laws and possible audits. They can assist you with
wills and inheritances. They can help you understand contracts, you
know, the fine print, undisclosed fees that are hidden way beneath the
surface. This is vital, often times, people have so many pages to a
contract, they quickly look at it and sign on the dotted line not
capturing the important details of the contract. A prepaid legal
services attorney is good for things like that.
Another scenario would be, the attorney in your area calls and
discusses your needs, which is included as a free consultation. Then if they need
to go to court or perform any other legal services, they will quote you
the discounted fee.
Typically attorneys charge large sums of money, so the discount may not
seem like a discount at all. This angers subscribers who have been
paying over a period of time and brings them to the conclusion that
the prepaid legal scam does in fact exist.
A prepaid legal services attorney can give you advice on how to proceed
with a lawsuit, with child custody cases, divorce and divorce
settlements, and even child support. There are actually many benefits to
having one of these attorneys.
What to Look For?
There are some prepaid legal services scams out there, but there are also legitimate prepaid legal service companies .
The good ones are very beneficial and can help you get assistance in a
time of need. What you want to be sure of is that you ask all of the
right questions before joining.
This is extremely important because if you happen to need an attorney
to help you with a messy divorce and child custody case, and you call
your prepaid legal service provider to be matched with an attorney. If
you have not done your homework on the front end, you could possibly
learn at this time there is not one in your area with this area of
expertise. It could possibly be that you get a call from the closest
attorney to you that may be in a neighboring state. Then they may tell
you they can't take the case, because you are out of their area. Uh,
oh, this has happened to subscribers and that is when they want to
cancel the membership and pass the word to watch out for the latest prepaid legal services scam.
The above may be represented as a prepaid legal scam by some, but it's really a lack of service. Like anything else in this world their companies that are reputable and those that are not. Prepaid legal services are no exception to this rule. Doing some homework and finding a well regarded prepaid legal provider can not only help you avoid any potential for prepaid legal scams, but afford you the luxury of helpful legal services.
A few things you will want to ask before you sign the dotted line and provide your credit or debit card to purchase the membership is detail about the attorneys in the network. Ask for a listing of all of the attorney's listed in your geographical area and their area of specialty. Find out is there a money back guaranty and how can you cancel the service if you are not satisfied. Ask for referrals. If you can get recomendations from people who have actually utilized the services it can go along way in telling you about what can be expected. Understanding the concept of prepaid legal services can work to your benefit, but you need to understand what you are getting.

Im an associate with pre paid legal services, I have no problems with the product so far, but I had a Conflict with a female at the Palm Springs Convention (Bernice) she said a Sexual Comment to me in witch if I said to her you all would call it Sexual Harrasment, I did over react I left a few messages with Profanity on her voicemail, She saved them and had a Platinum Executive Director,P.P.L. Then without letting me explian myself he kicked me out of the meetings, and when I went to my Mentors Patrick Gonzalas,Janna Domingo, and another Executve Director who did take my side all said a "Women cannot Sexually Harrass a Man", but in all there team meetings they talk about "EQUAL OPPERTUNITY", but when it came down to applying it,it was like they never heard of it. All Patrick said to me was "no matter what they will always take the womans side, even if they know she's wrong" im thinking to myself what the fuck does that even mean?, all I'm saying is when your in P.P.L. just like anywhere else your on your own, the meetings and they actually train you so your not completely on your own, but my Mentors and my Team always seem to work with out me, gee I wonder why that is? but hey I see a Mike Cappredia retiring his Mom, and getting paid 3,500-4,000 for the rest of his life, pretty fucking good.He can go out and do what he wants when he wants, and thats why I wanted to do it But when I told my Mentors that they said thats not really a good Why?, so I replied by asking what would be a good Example, he said "well do you want to retire your family?" well I dont keep in Contact with my Family and Vic Versa, "What do you want to do with your life?", Ive been under so much shit in the past few yrs if not all my life I cant really give an answere on that one, as much as I want to. Almost every person I exposed has said no, are flaked out ad almost everyone in San Diego has heard of it. When I try to stay Modivated all these small problems Ive had w/ my Mentors, are my Exposures my Team(I do understand that we all have life's, but)it makes me say fuck this shit, enspecially when I get Mentors Cursing at me or when there talking in a firm way, and about that Female Situation I had, Hey I dont gave a Rats ass Women are not Sexual Harrassment is all the same,my mentor said I dont give a shit if she tries to grabe your dick your still at Fault, Uh no Buddy thats Jail time right there I dont care how many make it out to be a one way street, OK BACK ON TRACK when I try to Modivate Myself all this kills it with the Quickness. However not to say PPL sucks, I would like to make it work but this all makes it very Difficult.
I definitely agree that one should do research first and foremost on any company offering services or a product. Conduct comparisons -- I've had the services for over 5 years and enjoy that I can contact Pre paid Legal for any legal question. Though I hope never to be faced with major or serious legal problems, it's a comfort to know that I do have access to a network of lawyers --Just like medical insurance, having a network of doctors available.
Pre_paid Legal is definitely a scam. They charged you 26.00 a month for services that you can find on your own. There is no need for companies like this in The United States Of America in these hard times. With a recovering economy, this company is just like everybody else, trying to get something for nothing. It is low down dirty shame. I paid my month fee and went to them to get an attorney and I dont have one after I have paid 2000.00 in Consultation fees , travel expenses, month dues and more. It is really disgusting because all I wanted to recover is 10,000.00. Pre-Paid and it's so called lawyers or attorneys are ripping people off. Instead of assisting people in legal matters, they are creating legal matters for that person that pays them for the same services. It is big big scam. Never ever join Pre-paid Legal as a customer or as a small business owner, you will lose your shirt and have nothing but a grueling situation on your hands. This company needs to be shutdown immediately for false advertising, illegal claims, poor customer service and more.
Thank you for the un-biased review about PPL! I've been a member for several years, and am very satisfied!
I guess, I'm already biased when it comes to prepaid legal. I have been a member of prepaid legal for 16mths. now and highly recommend the service. At first I was negative about the whole idea because I'm against paying for legal protection when your not even accused of doing something wrong.
However, over the time I have been with prepaid legal, I have been building my business. This business building process has made me realize that their are so many business out there that are just set up to take peoples money. What I found was that having prepaid legal made me feel more comfortable doing business and entering into agreements knowing that I had an attorney that would look over the agreements for me; having prepaid legal has turned my business into a real corporation. So, when I'm doing business and people aren't working with me as though I'm the president of a major corporation. I am able to have my attorney contact them and let them know that I'm serious and won't be taken advantage of. This process has saved me a lot of time and money.
The bottom line with prepaid legal is that your going to get attorneys that aren't going to rip you off. I feel when you have a lawyer that you know isn't going to take advantage of you. Then half of your legal battle has already been won and you can concentrate on the important issues. The reasons that brought you to the point of needing to include third parties to resolve any problem you might have.
Look at this way if your socially interacting with the community and you know if a situation arises your not going to be able to afford a lawyer. Then you need prepaid legal.
Be careful when dealing with anyone from pre-paid legal. This company doesn't run background checks on their employees. A neighbor, who invited me to a pre-paid legal seminar, turned out to be a convicted felon. Thank goodness I have family in law enforcement and two attorneys as friends. People do your own background checks.
It's important to do some research before doing business with any prepaid legal company. Background checks are very important, if you know someone from the company - that's better. Or at least make sure you have feedback from your friends or anyone reputable.
Prepaid Legal is great. I like the big commissions they give out when you move up. Excellent hub Frank.
Pre-paid Legal is a scam. They will keep charging you after you cancel. Had to close my bank account because of them
i am a pre paid legal member sance 2007 This note is to recognize the excellent service I received from my attorney. She was very knowledgeable, professional, and helpful in assisting with a real estate matter. She was very thorough and patient in answering all my questions. She represents the quality of service that makes Pre-Paid the industry leader!
Best regards
I just became an associate with ppl. I bought the 16 dollar plan and the 1 dollar legal shield as well. At first I was very excited and happy but after reading the fine print I discovered I can actually end up owing them money if I sign up members and then they cancell. Im a little nervous. Im happy to read all of the good reports on this web site. It should be an easy sell. I also have a need for an attorney so its worth a try.
Richard have your upline explain the compensation to you. You have an option of getting your commissions as earned or advanced. If your worried about charge backs go as earned and build your business with a long term vision. If you have not already read your success guide so you will at least know where to go to search out information and feel free to give marketing a call with any questions you may have.
Yes, there have been a large number of complaints about prepaid legal services operations. They only provide a very limited service and beyond that, the client has to pay for anything beyond the intial consultation (usually). This is sometimes not something that is made clear on the signup.
However, having said that, legitimate programs can assist the community by allowing the cost of legal services to be spread accross time, which is similar to way that insurance works actually. This has the effect of making legal services more accessible to the general public, so I think judgments have to be limited to specific providers of the plans rather than the whole enterprise in general.
I have friends who sales prepaid legal So I went to one of the meetings I said I will go and listen. When I got there i talked to some people listen to the presention and knew right there it was networking! i told my friends no then they asked again so I went to two more meetings again. It was the same show again you fill out the same form of what could happen to you and show the same video that was enough to scare anybody thtat a great way to get people to sign thier life away! My friends still sell and say they are doing well but they must not be or running out of people they are always posting tatics to get people to sigh up! Some of friends that are friends with them wont do it ethier!! We wished them well with their bussiness and we still all our friends but really what are they teaching at these meetings that if people dont join ppl that they are not postive people its not for everyone!! Come on you cant do no work and make money we all know that! i have read very little good on PPL at all! You can go to a district court and file on someone for under 100 dollars if you loose thats all you loose! And most big cases take months or maybe a year to solve and the lawyers fights to end to win the case and he takes a percent of the money and you take the rest. Really the changes of you needing a lawyer every month very rare! And then if your the big criminal if does not even cover all the services fully you get a discount and that would be cheep then. Let face it people there are people who cant even put food on thier table, pay thier bills, who dont have jobs, cant leave in thier homes and I am sorry to say lawyers cant always save you the judge makes the choice in his judement. You take the 26 dollars and times that 12 and see what you get thats a lot of money for some people to waste thats will never need services! Good luck to the people that do well but please stop teaching your associates that if people dont choose PPL to use or sell they are negetive people! And I read people who run this company are christen Thats not a Being a christen! A so your in the Forbes magazine how much did you pay them for that write up so they will put it it! Your comapny is still standing because you have robbed money from people who are told they can sign up and cancel anytime then when they try to cancel they call and its still being debit from thier bank acct...Another reason I would never give my bank info to something like this and when I asked if I could send a check my self to the compamy for my services and payment that i could not to that and thats because I was told thats how my checks would go in for the money for the people I sign up no way because all I read is how people never saw thier money! Just saying all the facts are there and are able to be read!!
family legal resources web site has a white courthouse on their website. They are the 1st one in the google search for same.the phone number is 1 805 770 2488. You will get a message from david or william.
THIS IS A SCAM!! BEWARE>>>SCAM!!!
had them for over 10 years but in the last month service had dropped like a rock. The refrence I was give didn't care about my issue. The company had a telemarketer call and tell me that's the way it is. Was good not anymore
I been a member and associate of prepaid legal aka legal shield over three years now ..there is always going to be some idiot who doesn't like the service and will do what they do now and try to put the company down ..do you really think a scam company would appear in Forbes magazine and money magazine? The YouTube video I saw of a bbb.org guy saying prepaid legal is a legit opportunity ..do you think new York stock exchange will allow scams into the NYSE.. do you think bbb.org would rate prepaid legal A+ now ?? Come on service has helped me a lot I made money calls to my attorney got the advice I needed and saved me money
Many comments are positive and many comments are negative. If you want to check out my website to find out more information (in my first hub), feel free. Yet, these are services I could not get on my own. I don't know if you're mentioning the service or the business opportunity is a scam. There are different definitions of scam, so, it may be according to some definitions. THIS MUCH IS CLEAR, when you call up the team of attorneys in the state in which you reside, they WILL get back to you and they WILL answer your questions and help as far as you want them to. Legal Shield (formerly Pre-Paid Legal) is the most legitimate, helpful, legal lifesavers I know of! I WILL NOT ever cancel for the benefit it has provided for my family and, honestly, if you think the service is a scam, you must not have tried it. I don't know how you could try the service and not be anything but THRILLED!
